How To Choose The Right Folding Card Table From Size, Shape, Color, And Must-Have Accessories.

It kills me every time I go to a friends house for a fun-filled night of poker and find out that they don’t have a folding card table.  Too many people focus on getting a nice set of professional poker chips, yet they overlook everything else.  There are many affordable folding card table sets out there and they are ultra-portable as well (hence the name).  Of course, buying a folding card table is an investment and like any investment, you need to do your research before you decided to get one for your next home poker tournament.  No need to stress about buying the wrong table, everything you need to know is right here!

Folding Card Tables – Choosing Your Table Shape

Choosing the shape of your table all depends on how many people will play at your home poker game for the majority of the time.  Space is also a factor in determining the size of your folding card tables.  Here are the 3 popular card table shapes that you should consider:

1. Oval Table

Oval folding card tables are the best tables if you and your buddies play a lot of poker games like Texas Holdem, etc.  If you go to a casino you’ll notice that a poker tournament will only hold a maximum of 10 players per oval table.  So that means that you can have 10 people if you decide to get an oval folding card table and chairs for your home.  This is the most popular shape for Holdem poker players.  If you have the space, this would definitely my first consideration for a card table.

2. Round Table

Round folding card tables are great for those only inviting a few handful of players each time they host a poker tournament or any other form or card game.  What’s great about round tables is that it’s much smaller in size than the oval table, and it’s symmetrical.  A symmetrical table allows each player at that table to be able to see and reach for cards at the same distance.  You can fit up to 8 players at a round table.

3. Octagon Table

An octagon table has the same benefits as a round table and seats the same number of players as well.  The only difference is that each side of the octagon shaped is defined as a seat for a player.  This is beneficial if you know for a fact that you’re only going to have a total of 8 players max at your poker game.  If your poker games range from 3-8, I suggest you go for the round folding table, because each person isn’t constrained to a specific spot.

Must-Have Accessories For Your Folding Card Table

There are only a few accessories to consider when buying a card table.

  • Drink Holders – Many tables will have built-in drink holders on the outter padding, but I find these holder  a little to shallow to prevent any drink from spilling.  Instead, I’d suggest you look into a plastic drink holder that you can tuck underneath the padding.  These will usually have a higher base for better support
  • Chairs – Some tables have matching card table chairs but Whatever you decide on, make sure you have enough chairs for the max number of players for your table.  If you have an oval table, you’re going to need 10-11 chairs (one for the dealer), if you have an octagon or round table you need 8 chairs.

Table Felt Color

Choosing the color of your felt for your table is strictly your preference.  Many people love the green because its the standard color, but you can choose from a variety of felt colors from red, blue, black, etc.
